Blueway 10K Programme reaches halfway: 4 weeks to 10K Paddling Challenge

Hundreds of new paddlers are half way through the Blueway 10K Learning to Paddle programme at over 40 locations nationwide.  Hundreds of more experience paddlers are planning to join them for the remaining weeks of the Blueway 10K Programme to update and improve their skills levels and stamina in advance of the Blueway 10K Challenge event on 20th August.

The Blueway 10K Programme is a no nonsense workout that allows people to turn up in regular workout clothes, put on a buoyancy aid, grab a boat and paddle, and go for short intensive work out. Blueway 10K Programme has partnered with over 40 activity providers around the country, canoe clubs and businesses, who are really interested in the physical and therapeutic benefits of paddlesports, canoeing and getting active in the great outdoors.  This fantastic network will ensure that you can find a friendly and enthusiastic Blueway 10K partner near you.  Find an activity partner near you atwww.bluewaysireland.org if you want to join in at this stage. There is a fee but it covers insurance, expert tuition in small groups, hire of equipment and safety gear and 10k event fee.

 

Blueway 10k challenge

 

The 9 Blueway 10K Challenge Events will simultaneously launch on the20th of August in Kilkenny, Cork, Coleraine, Fermanagh, Portumna, Leixlip, Killaloe, Naas & Leitrim.  The 10k events will bring together the participants from all 40 training locations to achieve the programme goal of paddling 10k. There is still time to register to participate. The Challenge is also open to experienced paddlers who must register in advance www.bluewaysireland.org/events – members of the canoe union participate for free, for all others a small fee applies to cover insurance.

Taster sessions will be available at each event location for anyone who wasn’t able to take part in the Blueway 10K training programme but would like to give Canoeing a whirl before registering for next year’s Blueway 10K.

Blueway 10k has been developed by Canoeing Ireland in partnership with Waterways Ireland, the Coca Cola Thank You Fund and the Canoe Association of Northern Ireland.
