The World Youth Fly- fishing Championships are taking place from July 21st to 26th in venues across Louth, Monaghan, Meath, Tyrone and Antrim. The event will help to showcase the wonderful angling amenities on the island of Ireland and with competitors all in the 14-18 age bracket it will also promote the wonderful sport of recreational angling to young people.
Minister Fergus O Dowd who attended the launch of the event encouraged the youthful competitors and marvelled at their ability to ‘ take challenges in their stride at such a young age and compete wholeheartedly and sportingly’ . The Minister acknowledged the important economic and social impact angling has on rural communities, bringing much needed revenue and jobs.

With IFI, the Loughs Agency, DCAL, Failte Ireland, and local businesses are supporting the great work of the organising committee under the guidance of the Leinster and Ulster councils of the Trout Angling Federation of Ireland. The competition is run cross-border under the regulation of FIPS Mouche.
Inland Fisheries Ireland is a statutory body operating under the aegis of the Department of Communications, Energy and Natural Resources and was established under the Fisheries Act on 1st July 2010. Its principal function is the protection and conservation of the inland fisheries resource. IFI promotes, supports, facilitates and advises the Minister on, the conservation, protection, management, development and improvement of inland fisheries, including sea angling. 12th FIPS-Mouche World Youth Fly Fishing Championship 2013
The competition is been organised and jointly hosted by the Ulster and Leinster councils of TAFI and run on a cross border basis. Each team will consist of 6 Anglers, Managers and Coaches. The anglers will be fly fishing for Brown and Rainbow Trout on Rivers and Lakes in both Provinces. The opening ceremony is being held in Dundalk on the 21st July with the Carrickdale Hotel as the championship headquarters. Official practice will be held on Monday
22nd followed by three days of competitive fishing. The beautiful setting of Hillsborough Castle will host the closing ceremony, symposium and presentation of trophies on the 26th.
